A Festival for the Whole Family

As the winter doldrums recede each year, Blackburn Park plays host to a vibrant celebration of the arrival of springtime: Brookhaven’s beloved Cherry Blossom Festival.
Nothing gets the party going like some incredible live music, and this fest sure sets a stage. The variety of acts is perfectly suited for everyone. The 2019 event showcased a decidedly 90s flavor, with headliners including The Wallflowers, Spin Doctors and Smash Mouth.
Speaking of oldies but goodies, the festival’s Classic Car show rolls out some truly righteous rides. Hot rods mingle with cool coupes for a spectacle of chrome and steel.
But you don’t have to be a “classic” to fit in here. Little ones of all shapes and sizes are always entertained. The Kidz Zone is a perfect place to let loose – with face painting, arts & crafts, games, even parrot-petting opportunities (subject to diva parrot schedule changes).
Meanwhile, Pet World offers our favorite furry friends a place to frolic and exchange sniff-greetings in the afternoon sun.
More than 100 local and regional artists are on hand to showcase and sell a colorful assortment of creations in the Artist Market. Pick up a masterpiece painting or some funky sculpture for your yard.
And one of the best parts of this festival is that you never know what little surprises might pop up. Last year, there was an appearance by a blacksmith who captivated passers-by with his unique craftsmanship.
Covering quite the international spectrum, food choices run the full gamut from fancy crab cakes and lobster rolls to down-home BBQ and nachos. Tasty drink options include lemonade and tea, plus the likes of beer, wine and margaritas for the over-21 crowd.
To get in shape for all the fun, you can register here for the Cherry Blossom 5K race that kicks things off on Saturday March 19. This fast and fun course serves as one of the final qualifiers for the Peachtree Road Race. All proceeds go toward supporting Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
So, if the weather is starting to feel cold and blah, just start looking forward – because the new Blossom will be awesome! It’s a rain or shine event, so unless there’s a tidal wave, the party will be on as scheduled!
